Frederic Festus Kelly became chief-inspector of letter-carriers for the Inland, or, General Post Office in about 1835. He took over publication of the Post Office London Directory, and subsequently founded Kelly & Co., which, in conjunction with other family members, published many county directories. Amongst many other publications they produced the "Handbook to the Titled, Landed, and Official Classes" from 1875, which continued in annual publication for many years. The company was renamed Kelly's Directories Ltd. in 1897 and continued until 2003 when the business changed to an internet search directory.
